Ileana’s debut release Barfi now goes international. The film directed by Anurag Basu has Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Ileana D’Cruz in key roles with Ranbir and Priyanaka playing lovable characters with disabilities.
The Film Federation of India (FFI) shortlisted it’s pick for ‘Best Foreign Language Film’ from all over India including Eega, Dirty Picture Paan Singh Tomar and Balaji Sakthivel’s Vazhakku Enn 18/9.Though both Barfi and Vazhakku Enn 18/9 made it to the final round, the unanimous choice was Barfi. It’s indeed a special honor for director Anurag Basu and his cast since only three movies namely Mehboob Khan’s ‘Mother India’ (1957), Mira Nair’s ‘Salaam Bombay’ (1988) and Ashutosh Gowariker’s ‘Lagaan’ (2001) have made it to the Oscar race.Bollywood debutant actress Ileana’s spokesperson said, “Being selected as India’s entry to the Oscars is an honour, a privilege and a matter of pride for the ‘Barfi’ team.’Barfi’ has received an overwhelming response from the audience and the critics.” The film released on 14th September and collected more than 58 crores in the first week itself, made at a 30 crore budget.Such has been the response for the film that even in Tamil Nadu it had a good run at the halls. Ileana has hit the bull’s-eye with the first Hindi release and she will soon be walking the red carpet.
