Maestro Ilaiyaraaja is without doubt one of the most loved celebrities in Kollywood. Ilaiyaraaja rarely addresses press conferences and takes part in audio-launches and other filmy events. He spoke to newsmen at a press-meet organized by Jaya TV to inform the press about his musical night titled ‘Endrendum Raja’ to be held in Chennai on the evening of 28th December.
Many journos expressed their desire to get themselves photographed with the ‘Maestro’ to which the musician-par-excellence agreed. However, the scribes were hugely upset when none of them received the formal invitation cards to attend the mega-musical night hosted live by the ‘Maestro’ on the stipulated date and time at the Nehru Indoor Stadium.
As it turned out, the event had to be held despite some opposition to the event by Tamil activists citing that the main sponsor of the event was a Kerala-based jewellers. Unfortunately, none of the actresses who have starred in plenty of songs in films under the mesmerizing music of the Maestro were present at the venue. Some heroes in the eighties, who survived merely because of songs composed by Ilaiyaraaja, were also absent.
Comedian Vivek was present at the venue and revealed that he had already ‘booked’ his ticket in advance so that he doesn’t miss out on the musical night. Popular music directors like Vijay Antony and Devi Sri Prasad, who had gone on record in the past on more than one occasion that they were huge fans of the Maestro, were present at the venue and thoroughly enjoyed the music churned out by ‘Isaignani’.
However, there was one person who too enjoyed the musical night without making it to the venue. The television channel(Jaya TV), which had arranged the event, had reportedly made some ‘special arrangements’ to beam the programme live at Amma’s(CM Jayalalitha) residence alone so that she can enjoy it without taking the trouble of coming to the venue! Reports say that Amma’s joy, after watching the programme, knew no bounds!
