Maestro Ilayaraja is all set to open a ‘University of Music’ at the holy town of Tirupathi in collaboration with Telugu superstar Mohan Babu, it is reported. The music director-par-excellence and the ageing actor visited the holy abode of Lord Venkateswara in the Tirumala Tirupathi Hills and worshipped the Lord a couple of days back.
The authorities at the Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanam Corporation (TTDC) welcomed both the VIPs and led them to the sanctum sanctorum where they paid obeisance to the Lord and later emerged out of the Temple a few minutes with the mahaprasadam in their hands.
Speaking to newsmen, Ilayaraja said that it had long been in their minds to launch a University to teach all aspects of music. “We have now decided to construct an University of Music to cater to the needs of students who want to study and dwell deep into all aspects of music. The proposed University would come up in the premises of the Srividya Niketan University (owned by Mohan Babu) in Tirupathi,” he said.
“There have been a few colleges which teach music in India but there is no separate University devoted to this noble field. We earnestly feel that with the help of the Lord (Venkateswara), the proposed University would fulfill the long-time needs of those who want to study music and pursue music as a career,” concluded the Maestro.
Have we spoken to Prof. Ilayaraja, who would be teaching music at the ‘Varsity?
