Director Kathir made the super-hit film ‘Idhayam’ starring the late Murali in the lead in the early nineties. Though he went on to make films like ‘Uzhavan’, ‘Kaadhalar Dhinam’, ‘Kaadhal Desam’ and ‘Kaadhal Virus’, movie-goers would agree that he is best remembered for the film ‘Idhayam’ which narrated the tale of a love-struck youth who was unable to express his love fearing that he might meet with a negative response.
After a 7-year long hiatus, Kathir has come back and has launched a film titled ‘Kodai Vidumurai’. The film would star Srikanth, another man in the comeback mode, as the hero while the heroine and rest of the cast are yet to be finalized. Kathir’s favourite and veteran lyricist Vaali would be penning all the lyrics in the film. A.R. Rahman would score the music for the film while Velraj would take care of the cinematography.
The launch of the film witnessed an unusually large number of directors in Ameer, Cheran, Mysskin, Vetrimaran, Sasi, Jananathan, Ranganathan, Vikraman, Balasekaran, Manobala, ‘Satyajyothi’ Thyagarajan, R.K. Selvamani, ‘Mugavari’ Durai and R.V. Udhayakumar besides producer R.B. Choudhary, Velu Prabhakaran and actors Chinni Jayanth, Vijayakumar and others.
Fittingly enough, the film has been aptly named as ‘Kodai Vidumarai’ (meaning ‘Summer Holidays’) as the shooting kicks off just after the summer holidays are over for the school children in the State and elsewhere. Award-winning art director ‘Thotta’ Dharani would handle the art work.
A huge portrait of the late and legendary MGR directing one of his films was erected at the venue and a huge garland hung around it. Kathir sure knows a thing or two about how to impress the rulers!
