Even before Ajith’s pet project ‘Billa-2’ (the sequel to his highly successful ‘Billa’ of 2007) goes to the floors, several technicians connected with the film have been changing rapidly. First, it was said that Vishnuvardhan who had directed the original ‘Billa’, would be directing the sequel. Then he was replaced by Chakri Taloti, who had directed Kamal Haasan in ‘Unnaipol Oruvan’.
Popular cinematographer Nirav Shah was signed up as the cinematographer for the sequel who was later replaced by Bollywood’s Hemant Chaturvedi. It appears that Nirav backed out once it was decided that Vishnu won’t be directing the film. It’s now Hemant’s turn to ‘excuse’ himself from the project as he felt that the delay in the launch of the film might affect his Hindi film assignments.
Hemant has now been replaced by Kollywood’s popular cameraman R.D. Rajashekar. The film, instead of continuing from where the first part ended, would instead trace the origin of the inimitable don Billa and find out reasons as to which made him the dreaded don that he became later.
Stunning Mumbai model Huma Qureshi and Kollywood’s Vimala Raman are set to star opposite Ajith in the film. While this would be Huma’s debut film in Kollywood, it might mark a significant turn around in the fortunes of the Tamil-speaking Vimala Raman, who has been knocking hard at the doors of Tamil films in recent years yearning for a top slot.
