Film-maker Elred Kumar has been left to nurture his bruised wounds though the making of his debutant directorial venture Muppozhudhum Un Karpanaigal (MUK) which was also produced by him. Starring Atharva and Amala Paul in the lead role, the film’s script was shoddy to say the least and as such wasn’t patronized by neither the audiences nor the fans of Amala and ended up as a disaster at the box-ofice.
Producer of successful films such as Simbu-Trisha’s Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaaya and Jiiva’s Ko, Kumar turned director with MUK as an after-thought. Now, Kumar is diverting all his energies on his next production venture Needhanae En Ponvasantham (NEP) which has Jiiva and Samantha as the lead pair and music by Maestro Ilaiyaraaja. For the first time, the Maestro would be scoring music for a film directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon.
The film has already been noted for its teaser released some time ago. Fans of Menon and the Maestro are looking forward to the film with lot of expectation to the songs of the film which are presently recorded at a London studio by the Maestro. Kumar, however, has reportedly asked Menon to have a ‘check’ on the film’s budget as he is yet to recover from the losses suffered on MUK.
Kumar reportedly had thoughts of taking NEP to Hindi but was put off by the far-from-encouraging response elicited by Ek Deewana Tha, Menon’s Hindi version ofVinnai Thaandi Varuvaaya. As such, he is quite content in making the film only in Tamil and is said to have asked his director to keep a ‘close watch’ on the film’s budget!
