Releasing in Telugu, English and Tamil, Urumi has bagged international honors. The film stars Arya, Prithviraj, Prabhu Deva, Genelia D’Souza, Nithya Menon, Vidya Balan,Tabu and comedian Jagathy Sreekumar in key roles. Urumi was a special movie for actress Genelia D’souza who played the bold Arracckal Ayesha.
Directed by Santhosh Sivan’s, Genelia underwent training horse riding and wielding the sword, in an effort to break away from her bubbly girl image. Urumi had a special screening, organized at the Four Frames theater which was attended by actor Vijay. The film released in 250 screens worldwide, on May 25th,2012 in Tamil. It has now won prestigious awards at the Imagineindia International Film Festival held in Madrid. There were 12 sections in all and 70 films were screened. Among them were ‘Memoirs in March’, ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’, ‘Urumi’, ‘Achal’, ‘Traffic’ and the other Mollywood film ‘Adaminte Makan Abu’, that was an official selection to the Oscars from India.Santhosh Sivan won the Best Director award and his Urumi walked away with the Best Film honor too. On winning the awards actress Genelia said “Urumi and Santosh Sivan keep making us proud, yayyy.”
