It’s not often that an ace director gets emotional to the point of breaking down after watching a film made by another film-maker. It was exactly what happened when Gautham Vasudev Menon watched the film Thanga Meengal (TM) made by film-maker Ram, who has made films such as Katradhu Tamizh which marked the debut as heroine of actress Anjali in Tamil films.
Menon watched the special screening of TM recently and was moved to tears by the time the movie came to an end. After a long hiatus, Ram is back with TM which has been produced by Menon’s production house Photon Kathaas. Menon was highly impressed by the script when Ram narrated it to him and assured that he’d be producing the film under his banner.
Menon saw the ‘first copy’ of the film and said “I was last moved to tears when I watched the Aamir Khan-starrer Taarae Zameen Par and wondered whether Kollywood would ever make such a film. It was then Ram narrated the script to me which was very impressive. I told him to play the lead role and that I’d produce the film for him.
“Ram has put in a tremendous performance in the film as an actor. Padmapriya and Rohini have delivered equally impressive and mind-boggling performances. I have watched the film three times and every time, I couldn’t control my emotions and broke down,” he said. The film has music by Yuvan Shankar Raja and has also starred in a song in the film.
To score the music of the film, Yuvan reportedly visited many schools and interacted with the students. The conversations, shot without the students being aware of it, now find place in the film.
