Veteran director Bharathiraaja’s upcoming film Annakodiyum Kodiveeranum (AK) has been proceeding in a sluggish manner, it is reliably learnt. Manoj, Bharathiraaja’s son, makes a comeback as hero with this film which has Karthika Nair and Iniya as the two heroines. Readers might recall that Karthika is the daughter of Radha, an actress who ruled the roost in Tamil films for more than a decade till the early nineties.
Actor-director R. Parthiban was first signed up as the hero and even did a photo-shoot only to be replaced by another actor-director Ameer. Many sequences were shot involving Ameer and his co-stars when Bharathiraaja decided to drop Ameer from the film and cast his son Manjo in his place. The lastst info on the film is that Gangai Amaran, the veteran lyricist and music director, would be penning the lyrics of the film.
It was expected that either Maestro Ilaiyaraaja or A.R. Rahman would be scoring the film’s music. Bharathiraaja, however, has chosen to work with young gun G.V. Prakash Kumar who is excited at having got an opportunity to work in the veteran’s film. The film’s shoot was launched late last year but was held up due to the Mullai Periyar Dam issue as both the heroines hail from Kerala. Later, the FEFSI strike didn’t allow the film’s shoot to get underway for many weeks.
Now that everything has been sorted out, Bharathiraaja has started to shoot for the film and has signed up Gangai Amaran to pen the film’s lyrics. Younger brother of Maestro Ilaiyaraaja, Gangei Amaran last worked in a Bharathiraaja film more than 22 years ago when he wrote the lyrics of the film Ennuyir Thozhan. As such, the two big guns are re-uniting more than two decades.
