With the cricket world cup hardly acouple of weeks away which would be followed by IPL cricket carnival till end-April, Tamil film producers, directors and distributors are seemingly in a hurry to release their films prior to the commencement of the cricketmonths.
The Class X and Class XII exams, scheduled for the third week of March, have also been acting as a dampener. The producers and directors are quite aware of the impact of cricket in our cricket-crazy country and know for sure that once the cricket mania is on, films and everything else would invariably take a back seat in the attention of the viewers and the public.
As a result, as many as 15 films are lined up for release on the 3 Fridays (4th, 11th and 18th February) starting today. The trend has changed a lot during the past few years.Earlier, films would be screened immediately on completion but so many factors need tobe taken into consideration in the present day set up before releasing a film.
Today (4th February) would witness release of Cheran’s ‘Yudhdham Sei’, DayanidhiAzhagiri’s ‘Thoonganagaram’ which has Vimal and Anjali in lead roles and anotherobscure film titled ‘Minsaara Kadhali’. ‘Thambikottai’ starring Naren, Poonam Bajwa,Prabhu and Meena is likely to release next Thursday (10th) followed a day later byPrakashraj’s ‘Payanam’ (on 11th). Actor Jiiva’s ‘Singampuli’ would release on 11th February along with ‘KaadhalarKudiyiruppu’, ‘Nandhi’, ‘Aivar’ and ‘Varmam’. Gautham Menon’s thriller ‘NadunisiNaaygal’, ‘Minsaaram’ and ‘Aaranya Kaandam’ would be releasing along with Jiiva’sAnand-directed ‘Ko’.
Producers will certainly will have keep their fingers crossed about what could be the success ratio ofall these films!
