Engaeyum Eppothum, a maiden joint venture by Hollywood’s Fox Star Studios and A.R. Murugadoss Productions, has completed its 50-day run last Friday (4th November). The romantic film starring Jai, Anjali, Ananya and Sharvanand in lead roles, and made on a budget of 5 Crore, has grossed 17 Crore as on date. In fact, it is touted as one of the biggest hits in Tamil Nadu this year.
Debutant Saravanan, an erstwhile aide of Murugadoss, had penned the screenplay, story and dialogues besides directing the film which has been praised lavishly by the critics for its treatment of the script and the power-packed performances by its lead actors.
Vijay Singh, CEO, Fox Star Studios, has this to say about the film’s success: “We are extremely glad that maiden venture in Tamil has received stupendous appreciation from the critics as well as the masses. The film’s success has, no doubt, encouraged us further to continue to make meaningful cinema.”
Murugadoss adds, “The success of Engaeyum Eppothum has clearly proved that content is the hero of any film; it has also broken the stereotypical formulas and myths of ‘centre’ classification. I thank, Fox Star Studios, Saravanan and the entire cast and crew of Engeyum Eppodhum. We are also indebted to the audiences who have made this success possible. I shall continue in my effort to unearth new talents in all the spheres of film-making.”
Engaeyum Eppothum, incidentally, is the first of a 2-film deal between Fox Star Studios and A.R. Murugadoss Productions for making two Tamil films on the trot.
