Actor Simbu is presently starring in a handful of films. Recently, the his Osthi team distributed cash awards to top-ranking students who had scored high marks in the SSLC and Plus Two examinations. As many as Rs.2 lakhs was distributed in the form of cash by none other than Simbu. His latest film ‘Vaanam’ has been doing average business at the box-office, it is reported. The actor is said to be working in films like ‘Poda Podi’, ‘Vettai Mannan’ and ‘Osthi’. In the season of remake films, ‘Osthi’ happens to be the remake of the super-hit Hindi film ‘Dabbang’ which starred Salman Khan and Sonakshi Sinha in lead roles.
Simbu’s fans are quite happy that Simbu’s choice of roles of late has been very good. Instead of playing a mass hero film after film, Simbu played a cable operator (Raja) in ‘Vaanam’ after playing a love-struck youth (Karthick) in last year’s ‘Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya’. In ‘Osthi’, though, he dons the cop’s uniform for the first time in his career.
Produced by Ramesh, the film stars the pretty Richa Gangopadhyaya opposite Simbu. Richa has already carved a niche for herself in Tollywood and enjoys a sexy image. The film has music by Thaman and is directed by Dharani, who has been lying low for the past few years after delivering box-office hits in films like ‘Dil’, ‘Dhool’ and ‘Ghilli’.
Veteran actress Revathy plays Simbu’s mother in the film. Dharani is not going to remake the film frame-by-frame from the original and would be making apt changes in the script to suit the tastes of Tamil audience as well as Simbu’s fans, it is learnt.
In all, ‘Osti’ is expected to be a highly enjoyable mass entertainer from the first-time combo of Dharani and Simbu.
