Director Dharani has aligned himself with actor Simbu for the first time in making his upcoming directorial venture ‘Osthi’. The film is the remake of the popular and successful Bollywood hit film of last year titled ‘Dabangg’ which featured Salman Khan and debutant actress Sonakshi Sinha. Simbu, for the first time in his career, would be donning the role of a tough cop and would be pairing up opposite Richa Gangopadhyay, the ‘hot’ Telugu heroine.
‘Nizhalgal’ Ravi and Revathy would be playing prominent roles in the film, with the latter playing Simbu’s mother. Thaman, an upcoming music director who thrilled many with his background score some time back in ’Eeram’, would be the music director of ‘Osthi’. Mohan Apparao’s Balaji Real Media Pvt. Ltd., which produced the Dhanush-Genelia starrer ‘Uthamaputhiran’, would be producing the film.
The film was launched in the city yesterday (10th May) at the AVM studios. Speaking on the occasion, Dharani said that the remake version would be sans the usual commercial elements but would be ‘extremely’ likeable with lots of interesting twists and turns and a racy script on the lines of ‘Ghilli’ and ‘Dhool’. “I can assure that the Tamil version would be better than the Hindi version and that Simbu’s cop act would be appreciated by one and all,” said Dharani.
‘Jithan’ Ramesh, not seen much in Tamil films in the past few years, is playing a significant role in ‘Osthi’. Gopinath, Dharani’s hand-picked man, would be the cinematographer.
