Popular music director Deva and veteran playback singer L.R. Eswari are to be felicitated at a function to be held in Muscat today. The function is organized in a very grand manner by the Muscat Tamil Sangam.
Sathaga Paravaigal, a popular orchestra based in Chennai, would be performing a grand concert in Muscat tonight. Deva would be taking part in the musical evening as a singer and not as a music director and would be singing a few songs. L.R. Eswari would also be crooning some of her hit numbers.
Deva, who was an integral part of the Tamil film industry throughout the nineties, has scored music for more than 400 films as on date including Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam films. Some of his super-duper musical hits include superstar Rajinikanth’s Annamalai, Baasha and Arunachalam. In all these films, the opening songs for Rajini composed by Deva went on to become extremely popular.
Eswari has been into playback singing for the past 50 years and has sung many memorable songs in the music of great music directors such as K.V. Mahadevan, M.S. Viswanathan and Ilaiyaraaja. She has many hit songs to her credit in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Tulu and English. She was recently felicitated for completing fifty years in the film industry. She has sung the much popular ‘item song’ ‘Kala Sala’ in Simbu‘s Osthe along with Vijaya T. Rajendar.
Both Deva and Eswari would be presented the ‘lifetime achievement’ awards at the function in which many leading playback singers of the present genre including Karthick, Suchitra and Saindhavi would be singing live for the audience. The auditorium where the function would be held has a capacity of 8000 and tickets for the venue have reportedly sold out.
