After a long hiatus, Daniel Balaji is back in action. The actor, who shone as Suriya, Kamal Haasan and Dhanush’s villain(s) in Kakka Kakka, Vettaiyadu Vilaiyadu and Polladhavan in that order, is now all set to portray a very different role in an upcoming film titled Gnanakirukkan which would be directed by debutant director Ilaiyadevan.
Balaji, who plays the title role in the film produced by the duo of Ganesan and Thangammal under their banner Thangammal Movie Makers, is quite confident that his role in the film would not only make him richer by experience but would also help him land up many film offers in his kitty in future.
Vasanthi, younger sister of actress Meenal, debuts as heroine opposite Balaji in the film which has the national award-winning Thambi Ramaiah essaying a significant role. Jagraj and Archana Kavi are the other couple in the film. Archana has starred in some Malayalam movies and has won a few awards for her performances. Sushmita is the third heroine in the film.
Taj Noor scores the music of Gnanakirukkan while Selvakumar is the cinematographer. The quartet of Naa Muthukumar, Kabilan, Arivumathi and Mohan Rajan is penning the film’s lyrics while Dinesh and Thambi Siva are the dance choreographers. Ilaiyadevan is penning the story, screenplay and dialogues of the film besides directing it.
The film was launched recently in Kumbakonam and a non-stop 40-day shooting schedule is planned in places such as Trichy, Thanjavur and Tiruvarur. Talking about his film, Devan says “The role played by Balaji is a good Samaritan who doesn’t like to differentiate between humans: all are equal in the eyes of the God, he firmly believes. He tries to make people realize the evils of being selfish. The script is based on a real-life incident which took place in my life,” he concludes.
