A City Court has issued arrest warrant against popular Kollywood director Saran. Widely believed by many as to possess the potential to churn out hit films at regular intervals, Saran entered the Tamil film industry with the Ajith-starrer Kaadhal Mannan in 1998. He went on to make many successful films including Kamal Haasan’s Vasool Raja MBBS. Saran’s latest directorial venture was Ajith’s Asal which released early last year.
Saran finds himself in a case where the cheque he gave to an advocate named Mohan bounced for ‘want of money’, prompting the advocate to seek legal recourse. In his petition filed at the Georgetown VII Court, Mohan has said that producer-director Saran was introduced to him through Balakrishnan, an auditor. Saran sought legal assistance from me with regard to certain case and I also provided him legal counseling in other cases too.
“Saran owed Rs.6 lakhs to me for the services rendered. Despite repeated reminders, he didn’t seem to bother to return the amount. The cheques he gave me against the due amount have been returned by his bank for want of funds to honour them. I, therefore, request you to take action against him for giving me cheques knowing very well that he hadn’t the funds at the bank,” said Mohan’s petition.
The case came up for hearing at the Georgetown Court in Chennai. Saran’s advocated appeared thrice during the hearing and sought time for Saran to appear in the Court. As Saran failed to appear in the Court on all the occasions, the Court has now issued a non-bailable arrese warrant against Saran and has asked the Valasaravakkam Police to arrest Saran and produce him at the Court by next Tuesday.
Saran is expected to surrender himself to the Court at any moment now.
