Court allows Hari to use the title of Venghai

A still from Dhanush Venghai

The Chennai High Court today vacated the interim stay it had imposed on director Hari and his crew from using the title ‘Venghai’ for their upcoming film starring Dhanush and Tamannaah in the lead.  The Court has now allowed Hari to go ahead with the title ‘Venghai’.

‘Venghai’, which brings together Dhanush and Tamannaah for the second time after their earlier hit film ‘Padikkadhavan’, was challenged by Kalaichelvan of Eka Chakra media claiming to have registered the same title before Hari with the Producers’ Council.  Hari, on the other hand, claimed that the matter had been settled off the Court with Kalaichelvan.

After Hari completed the shooting and was gearing up for the release of the film, Kalaichelvan filed a suit with the Court seeking its stay on using the title by Hari.  The interim stay was granted, albeit for a week, before the case was taken up for hearing yesterday.

After hearing the arguments, the Court has vacated the stay it granted and has allowed Hari to use the title for his film, which is releasing shortly.
