An official statement released by the Tamil Nadu government on September 27, announced any film having no Tamil title would be denied exemption from entertainment taxes.
‘Of late, there had been increase in some people seeking tax exemption by naming films according to their whims and fancies and claiming it was also Tamil name’. It may be recalled that while speaking at the audio launch function of ‘Va- Quarter Cutting’,Dhayanidhi Alagiri of Cloud Nine Movies categorically said the title of the film is only ‘Va’ and Quarter Cutting’ is just a tag line. He also said ‘Va’ is a clear Tamil title and hoped it will pass through all stipulation and regulations.
To put an end to this trend, the CM said in the statement, any film having no Tamil title would not be given exemption from entertainment tax. The release added that those who produced Tamil films, keeping in mind the Chief Minister’s original announcement and the promotion of Tamil language, will be benefitted by availing themselves of the concession.
