Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalitha appointed Shobha Chandrasekar, mother of Ilaya Thalapathy Vijay, and eminent Veena artist “Veenai” Gayathri as musical consultants in government musical colleges across the state.
An official release here said Shoba Chandrasekar, wife of well-known film maker Chandrasekar, would be the music consultant of 17 music colleges functioning under the Department of Art and Culture.
Ms Gayathri would be the consultant of Music colleges in Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore and Tiruvaiyaru, run by the “Tamil Nadu Iyal Isai Natak Manram”, the release said.
They would be part of preparing curriculum and advisory to the activities of the music colleges across the State. Shobha an accomplished playback singer has sung many hit songs in Tamil films including, ‘Maharaja Oru Maharani … ‘ from the old film Iru Malargal, ‘Totapeta Roattu mela Muttai Parotta’ from Vishnu, ‘En Uchimandai’ from Vettaikaran, and ‘Naam Nadanthal Adhiradi’ from Sura.
She has also performed at various classical concerts. She has written several stories that have been made into movies by movie-maker husband S.A. Chandrasekar.
