It appears that Cheran, the creative director, has given way to Cheran, the actor and has bid good bye to the art of directing films. The director, who has made some memorable films in Vetrikodi Kattu and Pandavar Bhoomi, has been starring in films for the past couple of years instead of making them.
Cheran hardly compromised on commercial aspects and always drove home the message he wanted to convey. Nobody knows for sure as to what exactly was the reason which made him switch his career from directing to acting. Though he had been acting for the past many years, his acting assignments interspersed his directorial ventures at regular intervals. However, he is into full-fledged acting nowadays.
Instead of playing family and agonizingly emotional roles, Cheran has started playing ‘action’ roles starting with Mysskin’s Yudhdham Sei. His latest film Muran too had him playing a very different role and his acting was appreciated by critics and movie-goers. It was rumoured in the press that after the release of Muran, Cheran would return to his directing ways and would be directing Thalaimuraigal.
Cheran, though, hasn’t said anything about directing films for now. Cheran’s next film is being directed by Vasanth which would also have ‘action king’ Arjun and ‘Mirchi’ Siva. Titled oddly as Moondru Per….Moondru Kaadhal (MPMK), the film’s shooting is all set to commence by the end of November. Cheran’s next project would be Chitti directed by Nakulan Ponnusamy. Vasundhara, who played a brilliant in the award-winning Tenmerku Paruvakkatru last year, has been paired opposite Cheran in MPMK.
Cheran has also committed himself to playing the lead role in an yet-to-be-titled film to be directed by Raja, an erstwhile assistant director who worked for many years under cinematographer-director Balumahendra.
