Charu Haasan:I saw Kamal’s first film 100 times

Actor Kamal Haasan’s elder brother Charu Haasan rarely goes public with his views as he is seldom spotted in filmy functions and audio-launches. The elder Haasan was the chief speaker at the audio-launch of the upcoming film Anbulla Kamal held at Chennai’s AVM studios last week. The film, incidentally, is the Tamil dubbed version of the Malayalam hit film 4 Friends.

The film is about four close friends who had all been afflicted by the dreaded disease of cancer. Kamal has played the role of the person who indulges in all sorts of things to make the quartet happy and keep them in highly positive spirits so that they forget about the ill-effects of the disease. Kamal didn’t take any payment for starring in the film as it had a relevant social message. Jayaram, Jayasuriya and Meera Jasmine are the other lead actors in the film directed by Saji Surendran.

“I feel nobody is more qualified than me to take part in the film which has been aptly titled Anbulla Kamal. I got married much before Kamal’s birth and I saw his very first film (as a kid) Kalathur Kannamma 100 times in various cinema halls in the State. I used to carry Kamal, who was still a kid, and would go to many theatres; each time, I found tears of joy welling up in my eyes on seeing my kid brother on big screen,” said Charu Haasan and was overwhelmed by the emotion.

The film is released in Tamil Nadu by Pratheep. Those who took part in the audio-launch included ‘Kalaipuli’ G. Sekaran, actors Vidharth and Ravikanth, music director John and Prateep himself.
