The Indian Cinema industry on whole whether it is Bollywood, Kollywood, Tollywood, Mollywood and Sandalwood has always been kind to its actors, actresses and directors. And In terms of financial stability, one seldom comes across a struggling actor or actress or director or music director long after he/she has stopped working actively.
But its not the same in most of cases of story/dialogue/screenplay writers who end up leading a subdued life with no real luxuries in the autumn of their lives. But when it comes to taking up the issue in open air, Who else could be a better person than K Bhagyaraj the ‘ Former King of Screenplay Writing’ in the state who had delivered an unbelievable streak of 11 consecutive box-office hits throughout the eighties,
His films like ‘Vidiyum Varai Kaathiru’, ‘Andha 7 Naatkal’, ‘Thooral Ninnu Pochu’, ‘Mundhaanai Mudichu’, ‘Enga Chinna Raasa’, ‘Aaraaro Ariraro’, ‘Pavunu Pavunudhaan’ and ‘Idhu Namma Aalu’ are just a few samples of the talents possessed by this amazing script writer. More surprising would be many of his films were remade in Hindi and turned to be equally successful ventures, forcing many doyens of Bollywood to term Bhagyaraj as the ‘king of screenplay writing’. In a recent interview , Bhagyaraj had opened up the issue stating “screenplay writers, who play a decisive part in a movie becoming a hit or a miss, are mostly neglected.
Taking a dig at the cinemas made today, Bhagyaraj said, “Current generation cinema shows romance, romantic failures and nothing else. And Most of the debutant directors tend to make movies out of their own personal experiences, thus giving an immature look to the entire film industry. Only a good screenplay writer can change the scenario. The only problem, though, is that these screenplay writers are not paid appropriately. Even if a film succeeds, they are the underdogs and among the least paid too. If I have the say, I would ensure that they are paid the equal amount of fee such as directors,” concludes Bhagyaraj.
Are the producers listening?
