Director Bala’s much-anticipated and much-hyped ‘Avan Ivan’ is into its second week. If the first week’s performance of the film at all centres at the box-office is any indicator to go by, then the film is likely to end up as a top-grosser like Jiiva’s ‘Ko’, which is still going strong even after more than two months of its theatrical release.
Starring Vishal and Aarya in never-before-seen roles, the film is said to be doing roaring business at ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’ centres across the State and in Chennai. Producer Kalpathi Agoram proudly shared the information with press-persons yesterday and said that he was extremely happy that the film has turned out successful ‘as expected’.
Agoram said that the ‘opening’ (box-office collections of the first 2-3 days) the film received was really ‘fantastic’ and likened the response from the audience to ‘Avan Ivan’ to the response generated by superstar Rajinikanth’s ‘Enthiran: The Robot’. He was confident that the film would have collected Rs.35 crores by the end of its second week in theatres if the trend continued. He said he was hopeful of sustaining the audience’s interest. The response of the people is particularly surprising given the adverse nature of almost all the reviews.
The script of the film has Theni and its surrounding localities as its backdrop from where a particular ‘community’ is said to be opposing the way their community leader has been ‘depicted’ in the film. Ironically, collections at the box-office are said to be more in this particular region.
After all, controversy does have a positive impact as well!
