Producer-distributor Ravichandran of Ascar Films is said to have acquired the distribution and theatrical release rights of actor Ajith’s upcoming film Billa-2 for a record price. Directed by Chakti Toleti and set to musical score by Yuvan Shankar Raja, Billa-2 has managed to generate great interest and unprecedented curiosity among Ajith’s fans who relished the star’s landmark 50th film Mankatha which released last year.
The film has been in the making for quite some time and the shooting is said to have been wrapped up some time back. On Ajith’s insistence, the crew is said to be waiting for superstar Rajinikanth’s return to Chennai from Kerala where he has been shooting for his upcoming film Kochadaiyaan as Ajith wants the audio of Billa-2 to be released by Rajini at a simple function either at his house or his Kalyana Mandapam.
Producer Suneer Khaterpal confirms that the film’s distribution and release rights in all other major localities have been sold off except for the Kerala State. Ravichandran, who has produced films like Dasavatharam, is said to have acquired the release rights of Billa-2 for a record price of Rs.26.11 crores with the Tamil Nadu region costing Rs.24.11 crores and the Puducherry region a mere 2 crore.
The film has already raked in huge sums of money to the film’s producer as the satellite broadcasting rights of the film have already been sold to a leading television channel for a considerable sum. The release rights of the film abroad and in other (Southern) States of India have also reportedly swelled the bank balance of the producer, who has reportedly recovered his production cost already.
The film’s publicity campaign would be launched in a big way from May, it has been announced by the makers.
