Arya Inaugurated Style Salon Hi Street at Chennai on 26th Jan 2011

Noted hair-stylist Senthil is the one who manages the ‘hair’ affairs of many top stars including actors Vijay, ‘Jeyam’ Ravi, industrialist-turned-actor RK, Aarya and Prasanna. Quite popular among the actors and actresses, Senthil has at last launched his own spa-cum-fitness centre.

Senthil is credited with having created the looks of these heroes in their recent movies, notable among them being Aarya’s looks in last year’s ‘Madarasapattinam’ and Prasanna’s ‘dreamy’ looks in Myshkin’s ‘Anjathay’ which released more than two years back. Named as ‘High-Street’, the sprawling gym (situated near the SSR Pankajam Thetatre  complex in Saligramam was inaugurated by actor Aarya on the eve of the 61st Republic Day yesterday.  Aarya also became the first ‘client’ of Senthil as he got his hair cut and ‘ajdusted’ at the new spa. Aarya’s popularity, which has only increased with successive hit films in ‘Madarasapattinam’ and ‘Bass Engira Baskaran’, ensured that there was a curious crowd of onlookers who were seen vying with each other to shake hands with Aarya and get his signature.

  1. Ean iyer ellam shirt podarathilla; no shave; mudi sariya vaarathilla; lungi vera; Sahikala. Now culture culture’nu varatheenga! namba iyer’a paartha bakthi varuma?

  2. Iyers paatha en bhathivaranum? avanga enna special-a illa special breed-a??  Where ever there are good people they will be respected irrespective of their religion. Besides, how one lives one life is no-one’s business as long as  one doesn’t indulge in illegal activities.

  3. Olarathada Dei @naan!

Nee enna North Indiana ‘Naan’ rottiya? Onnithayume mulusa yosichu pesa maateengala?

An Iyer does sermons for God on our behalf. They play an important role in making the young ones believe in God while they grow up. Thoughts about God has played a big part in helping our society to keep crimes and anguish down to relatively lower level. Therefore Iyers must look, talk, act and live respectable. They must help temples and poojahs solemn to bring that nice feeling to devotees.

  5. Preist and iyers are different. Not all iyers are priests. besides, how many iyers have personal 1×1 talk with the devotees after the sermon is over? or how many iyers thank the devotees for coming to the temple.. or for that matter how many priests keep the community engaged spiritually? Inclination towards god is not that important as long as one displays maturity in his behaviour-god resides in us, we are one with god. knowledge is god. I stand by what I say, ” good people” irrespective of their caste and proffesion,  will be looked upon, and god resides in them!

btw, you getting personal isn’t helping you much! better luck next time!!

  6. Hey

Sorry for not being as polite as you. I will be from this moment.

You are getting out context. I am not talking about the correctness of the idea of god. I just want our people to do what they already do in a polished way. I write these comments to spread my opinion that Style is not any less important than substance. I suspect Style over a longer period is more important than substance. India as a nation and hinduism as religion and Mohandas Ghandi as a leader have caused ignorance of style although Mohandas actually intended ‘humbleness’ but people have interpreted it wrongly.

Coming to this particular iyer issue I just mean priests. ‘Iyer’nu nambavanga sollumpothe kevalama than solranga? Ean? Did you think about that. They themselves are to blame. They don’t look respectable may be because of their dress. They don’t conduct themselves with dignity; panam’na immediately you see a difference in their expressions. Why shouldn’t they model themselves similar to Christian priests?

  7. By ‘Style’ I mean anything extra you do on top of what is absolutely can’t do without. If you eat beef you bring style to your living because you can do with Saambar. Of course things are relative. I do not expect you to shoot back saying we can eat vegetables raw.

  8. Thank you for correcting your tone.

There is no bone of contention here, I see what you’re saying. However, just a good apprearence is not sufficient. People remember how we make them feel. Priest are not friendly enough, they got to get involved with devotees, with communities. I have lived in different parts of the world. The attitude of a priest changes once they are away from their mother land. They tend to be more enagged with the temple visitors, explaining the concepts of each and every ritual. They are not the same back home. I don’t think they should emulate anyone… they got to create their own style, an everlasting immpression. What i have seen is, a Srilankan iyer is different ( he speak only pure tamil )  from that of an indian iyer. Usually, the former has no reservations, later has a lot of issues that needs to be worked up on. Anyway, we need to work towords uplifting our community engaging devotees in each and every temple activities!   People who who carry unconditional hate for iyers and bhramins are shumcks .. there is no need to pay attention to such dimwits!

  9. And just now I finished watching Magilchi. Nice to see a reasonably good Thamil way of living but why is that lungi dance inserted? With better preparation they could have made it into a great movie. I believe in placing more importance to perceptions and intentions rather yhan portraying what really happens around us because what happens around us in Thamil Naadu is disgusting. Seeman could have avoided the violence and stupid comedy. He did the same mistake in other films where he directed Mathavan. However he tries his best to remind Thamilar on their identities.

  10. I believe in going about most of the issues in a passionate way. Also I believe in copying without lagging behind too much saying we want to be originals; but we can customise, improvise and invent from that base. I want our iyer to be respectable like Christian priests. But radical changes have to be imposed quickly with regard to their roles in our society. They must be well dressed first. Then solemnity; should speak excellent Thamil in a great tone; should learn other languages to teach children… and a few more. However I am not able to decide if they should venture into martial arts as Bhuddist Monks did.
