Actress Iniya gave a very good account of her acting credentials in the role of a village belle in director Sargunam’s latest directorial venture Vaagai Sooda Vaa (VSV) which had Vimal playing the lead role of a teacher trying his best to inculcate the significance of education in the minds of village folks. Though the film wasn’t a commercial success, Iniya’s neat performance didn’t go unnoticed.
She has now been signed up as the lanky Arulnidhi’s heroine in an upcoming film titled Maunaguru. Readers might recall that Arulnidhi, grandson of Kalaignar, debuted in films last year in a village-based subject titled Vamsam opposite a de-glamourized Sunaina and directed by Pandiraj. The film was an average hit. Arulnidhi’s solitary release this year was the city-based Udhayan opposite debutant Pranitha.
Udhayan sank without a trace at the box-office and as such, Arulnidhi is badly in need of a hit to stay in the reckoning. He is, therefore, looking upto Maunaguru with lots of promise. Speaking about her role in the film, Iniya says “I have been taking part in many competitions right from my childhood days. As I grew up, I was attracted to the glamour world of modelling where I did many commercials.
“I have proved that I can act in some Malayalam films with performance-oriented roles. In fact, I’ve won quite a few awards as well in Malayalam films. My role in Mysskin’s Yudhdham Sei, albeit a brief one, was a very nice experience. My role in Maunaguru is a refreshing character. I’m sure it’d click with the masses,” concludes Iniya.
Let’s hope so!
