The Oscar awards ceremony took place this past Sunday at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles. The night was studded with Hollywood A-listers from the likes of Angelina Jolie, Steven Spielberg, Jennifer Lopez and many others. Entertaining the glitterati was none other than composer AR Rahman who performed at the 84th Annual Academy Awards.
Rahman’s ‘Oscar sangamam’ as he likes to call it was performed by a super band of musicians. He gave out the news to his fans saying, “Oscar sangamam – if you are watching the Oscars live, catch our Oscar superband headed by Hans Zimmer perform tonight.” Rahman was joined by drummer Sheila E., best known for her association with Prince, violinist Ann Marie Calhoun, American Rapper Pharrell Williams and Germany’s favorite motion picture composer Hans Zimmer. They held the audience in awe with their spicy mix of music, giving the awards a fresh feel in itself. Rahman who was at his best with his vocal performance and keys, did enthrall with a good section from his ‘127 Hours’ score. The Oscar night also saw Esperanza Spalding’s rendering Louis Armstrong’s inimitable track ‘What a Wonderful World’ as a tribute to those who passed away last year, paying respect to Jane Russell, Elizabeth Taylor, Etta James and Whitney Houston.
Rahman, we look forward to more of these Sangamams from you 🙂
