Director Ameer has filed complaint against produer Gnanavelraja of Studio Green and against Gemini Labs for selling the Telugu rights of the film Paruthiveeranwithout his knowledge. Ameer directed Paruthiveeran which launched Suriya’s brother Karthi in films more than four years ago.
The film also fetched for its heroine Priyamani the national award for ‘best actress’ for her portrayal of a village belle. Ameer says that though Gnanavel started producing Paruthiveeran, he quit mid-way through the film and added that he took it upon himself to complete and release the film by spending out of his own pocket. The dispute is still raging between Ameer and Gnanavelraja in this regard.
In the meantime, as Karthi has become so popular in Telugu thanks to the good run of the Tamil films which were dubbed in Telugu and released, Gnanavelraja had reently announced through media advertisements that he would be releasing the Telugu dubbed version of Paruthiveeran as Malligadu. This has triggered a fresh wave of dispute.
Ameer has alleged that while Gnanavelraja had breached the written agreement to the effects that the film wouln’t be released in Telugu, Gemeni Labs too breached the agreement by selling off the negatives of the film’s reels. “Gnanavelraja and Gemini Labs are planning to release the film without paying the 25% royaty amout to me,” Ameer has said in his complaint with the commissioner of police.
