Stage is now set for Union Chemicals and Fertilisers Minister M K Alagiri,his wife Gandhi and son Durai alias Dayanidhi as they have been slapped with a summon by the Madurai District Collector U Sagayam, to appear before him on September 16 to explain the alleged irregularities regarding the violation in the construction of Dhaya College of Engineering and Technology in Sivarakottai near Tirumangalam, here on Thursday.
The request for affiliation of the college was pending with the Anna University of Technology while the Madras High Court bench here had issued orders to consider it as per rules and regulations.
The summon Roc.No.J3/405/2011, dated September 6, 2011, sent by Madurai Collector U Sagayam stated that Alagiri, his wife Ganthi Alagiri and son Dayanidhi violated the norms in the construction of the buildings of Dhaya College of Engineering and Technology owned by ‘MK Alagiri Educational Trust’ by causing damage to two of the five irrigation sluices originating from Karisalkulam tank which was being used to irrigate 331.83 acres.
The summon has been sent in the wake of a petition dated July 18, 2011, filed by M Ramalingam, of Sivarakottai, regarding encroachment and damage to sluices connecting the Kaunda river. According to the petition, an inspection conducted by the Divisional Revenue Officer(DRO), Madurai on August 19, revealed that the sluices were destructed due to the construction of the college and it affected the livelihood of farmers of the region.
The eight-page notice said, “It is crystal clear that the trust has committed offences under the Tamil Nadu Irrigation works (construction of field bodies) Act 1959 and Tamil Nadu Farmers Management of Irrigation System Act,2000, and Tamil Nadu Protection of Tanks and Eviction of Encroachment Act 2007”.
Taking these issues into consideration, the Collector sent the summon to their Madurai address and advised them to be present before him on September 16.
