The distributors and theatre-owners across the State have been literally ‘stumped’ by the sudden decision of actor Ajith Kumar to disband all the Fans’ Clubs operating in his name in the State with immediate effect on the eve of his 40th birthday, which was celebrated as a ‘low-key’ affair by the actor on the 1st of May.
Those who are in the distribution circles are quite aware of the effect the ‘opening’ an Ajith film has. They know for a fact that whether the film eventually turns out to be a hit or a miss, the ‘opening’ of Ajith’s films (the box-office collections of the first 10 days or two weeks) is second next only to a Rajini film or a Vijay film.
They are now a disappointed lot, as Ajith appears to have driven a ‘deep wedge’ between himself and his die-hard fans by asking them to disband those entire Fans’ Clubs. They fear that the decision of Ajith, irrespective of whatever prompted him to do so, would have a ‘negative’ impact on his future releases.
It’s a trend of leading stars to increase fee citing the number of fans they have. In this backdrop, they feel that Ajith’s (who reportedly gets paid not less than Rs.10 crore per film) decision to disband all those Clubs defies basic logic. They further warn that unless retracts his decision, he would feel the ‘pinch’ during the release of his upcoming landmark 50th film ‘Mankatha’!
Will Ajith relent?
