Though Ajith disbanded and dissolved the innumerable numbers of fans’ clubs operating in his name and on his behalf last year, it affected in no way the theatrical collections of his Mankatha (which was his landmark 50th film as well) which released soon after. In fact, the film went on to become one of the most significant hits in the actor’s career with an ‘opening’ which almost equalled some of superstar Rajinikanth’s films.

The actor turned 41 on ‘May Day’ on Tuesday even as he completes 21 years in the limelight in the film industry. Ajith’s name is mentioned in the same breath as Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth when it comes to delivering hit films at the box-office. Billa-2, his upcoming film, has already raked in Rs.40 crores by virtue of its release rights in many zones in the State as well as outside the State.

Those who have keenly followed him over the years would vouch for the fact that it’s not without undergoing difficulties that Ajith has managed to reach his presnt position. In his early years, he has starred in a few films for which no payment had been made to him. In the midst of a successful career, he fell in love with Shalini (his heroine in the hit film Amarkkalam) and got married and settled into matrimony in a smooth manner.

After he starred in the remake of superstar Rajinikanth’s Billa in 2007, Ajith’s career underwent a complete turnaround. Ever since, Ajith’s ways of promoting his films have come in for lot of praise. Though the fans’ clubs are no more active, Ajith continues to render helping hand to the needy fans. On the eve of his birthday, the fans indulged in various socially relevant activities in his name.

Ajith’s message was clear: “It’s nice to indulge in socially relevant causes but the fans should ensure that it doesn’t interfere with the welfare of their own lives. One shouldn’t hurt himself while helping others. Help other in every possible way you can without harming yourself,” is the actor’s message on the eve of his birth-day.

Let’s wish him (albeit belatedly) many more fun-filled years!
