Now that Indian cricket team has managed to win the coveted and the most prestigious world cup in Mumbai last Saturday, Tamil film producers and directors must be releasing a huge sigh of relief as they can now hope to release their respective films in theatres and not fear ‘boycott’ by the audience, who had so far bee clued to all the cricketing action.
First of those releases would be a biggie, ‘Mappillai’ starring Dhanush and newcomer Hansika Motwani which would be releasing this Friday. Directed by Suraj who had earlier made Dhanush’s ‘Padikkadhavan’, the film is a remake of Rajni’s superhit film of the late eighties and is expected to fare well at the box-office given the fact that Dhanush is on a roll with four consecutive hits.
Other major releases lined up for this month are the Jiiva-Karthika starrer ‘Ko’ by K.V. Anand and Prashanth’s period film ‘Ponnar Shankar’, which would be his first film in as many as three years. Suseendhiran’s ‘Azhagarsamiyin Kudhirai’ and Shanthanoo’s ‘Kanden’ are expected to be released towards the month-end.
Much-in-demand Hansika Motwani’s second film ‘Engeyum Kaadhal’ opposite ‘Jayam’ Ravi and ‘Vaanam’ starring Simbu, Bharath and Anushka are expected to be released in the first week of May, followed closely by Sathyam Cinemas’ ‘180’, director Bala’s Vishal-Arya starrer ‘Avan Ivan’ and Vikram’s Vijay-directed ‘Deivathirumagan’.
A busy summer ahead for film-lovers, for sure!
