Well known actor Ravichandran, passed away late on Monday night at Apollo Hospital, Chennai. Ravichandran(71), is survived by his wife Vimala, daughter Lavanya, and sons Balaji and Hamsavardhan. He was earlier married to Malayalam actress Sheela who later divorced, and has a son George, who is acting in Tamil serials.
The actor had been suffering from kidney ailments and lung infection for some time and was on dialysis for the last few months. Taking a turn for the worse, the actor went into coma on July 20.
Doctors said he did not respond to treatment and his condition had deteriorated over the last two days. “His pulse and BP dropped drastically. We could do nothing,” a doctor said.
A popular hero of the 1960s and 70s, Ravichandran made his debut as a hero in Sridhar’s “Kadhalikka Neramillai” in 1964 which eventually became a huge hit. He went on to act in Tamil films for the next decade or so, going on to star in more hits, including the thriller Adhey Kangal and the rollicking comedy Utharavindri Ullevaa. Among his latest films were “Arunachalam” with Rajinikanth and “Pammal K Sambandam” with Kamal Haasan. Ravichandran got down to direction, later in 2005, launching his son Hamsavardhan.
Ravichandran, who was last seen in “Kanden Kadhalai” as the grandfather of actress Tamannah was very popular among the youngsters in those days and will always be remembered for his different roles.
