Aadhi doesn’t fail to surprise you. First, he played the role of a ruffian in Mirugam to such perfection that the audience, especially women, actually started loathing him.
Then, came his classy portrayal of a cop in Eeram, which changed all that hate into admiration overnight. His role, as a cop who refuses to doubt his beloved’s character long after she is dead and gone, made the girls go ga-ga about him.
Now, after having experimented with two completely different characters, Aadhi is all set to explore a third in his next film titled Ayyanar. And this time, he plays a coach.
Says the actor, “It’s a commercial film with an interesting storyline. I play a sportsperson who is trying for a railways job through the sports quota. The movie has all the commercial elements and these have been included in the film because the script requires them. Such elements have not been forcefully incorporated in the movie.”
The name Ayyanar certainly seems to appeal to Aadhi. For, his character in his first film, Mirugam, was called Ayyanar and now, his third film’s title also goes by the same name! Smiles the actor, “After the first half, you’ll think about why we named it Ayyanar. But after the second, you’ll know why they named it so. In the rural areas, Ayyanar is a diety who forces people to correct their mistakes. My role in the film too is somewhat similar.”
At a time when people tend to stick to themes that ensure success, why has Aadhi chosen to experiment? “Ah, the decision to do Ayyanar was a conscious one. After Eeram, I didn’t want to do something loud. I wanted to do a commercial film. Ayyanar, directed by Rajamitran, has a strong storyline and is a story that revolves around two brothers. I thought this was the right project to do after Mirugam and Eeram.”
Meera Nandan of Valmiki fame plays the female lead in Ayyanar. Sharing his experience of working with her in this project, he says, “Meera is a good performer. However, as the whole script is about the relationship between brothers, we didn’t shoot for more than 20-25 days together.”
Finally, ask him what else is in store and he replies, “My next film Aadu Puli is also over; I completed the shoot recently. Poorna plays the female lead in this cute family story and Suresh sir plays the villain. This will be an out-and-out family entertainer.”
