It’s an honor for any film maker or actor to be part of the international circuit. Kollywood once again is making it’s strong presence felt, when it comes to reaching an international audience.4 Kolly flicks have made it to the German International Film Festival this year.
What’s worth pondering is that none of the movies had a star cast, but rode on a strong script and realistic performances, from both debutants actors and directors. Sargunam’s romantic comedy Vaagai Sooda Vaa tops the list with Vimal and newcomer Iniya in lead roles. The movie had some wonderful music by Ghibran, again a debutant, and awarded the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil for 2012. Santha Kumar’s Mounaguru that spun Arulnidhi’s success story had a tight screenplay to go with. Marking the debut of director Santha Kumar, it had Iniya in female lead and turned out to be a sleeper hit. Balaji Shakthivel’s Vazhakku Enn 18/9, had big hopes before release and rightly so Balaji lived up to it. The director is more than pleased to absorb all the appreciation for his film that starred first time actors. The 4th in the list is debutant director S Thangasamy Rattinam, which has new faces Lagubaran and Swathy in a school romance set in Tuticorin. We congratulate all 4 of them for bagging international honors and wish them all the success.
