Natty Kumar, the Tollywood producer who had taken on the distribution and release rights of the Telugu-dubbed version of Dhanush-Shruti starrer 3, has complained of ‘huge losses’ and has squarely blamed the husband-wife pair of Dhanush and Aishwarya for the same.
The film, which also marks the directorial debut of Dhanush’s wife Aishwarya, was released two weeks ago. Though the initial week registered a satisfying turn-out of fans of the stars and movie-goers, it is said that the film’s box-office collections took a huge beating in the second half thanks to the mixed reactions from the public who have seen the film and due to the reviews published in various magazines and websites.
Producer-distributor Kumar has gone on record stating that the failure can be easily attributed to the non-cooperative attitude of the lead stars and the director. “I secured the distribution of the Telugu version of 3 for a whopping sum of Rs.4.3 crores though I was aware that Dhanush’s market in Andhra Pradesh wasn’t moret than Rs.10 lakhs. Even my friends criticized me for risking such a huge sum on the film.
“I did so as I had huge faith in the family members of superstar Rajinikanth. I felt Aishwarya’s debut directorial venture would do well in A.P. After assuring me that they would be visiting Hyderabad on 1st April to promote and publicise the film, Dhanush and Aishwarya didn’t keep their promise; neither did they attend the film’s premiere show and have disappointed me. I have incurred huge losses because of the film’s poor showing,” he concludes.
